a new year dawns...

smilemy father's 'revolution' [i laughed at this] is to fix the tiles in the bathroom at home

my first resolution: do not buy any books until i've read the old ones [it's not working so well, yet...lol]

second resolution: face reality
truth, in itself, is not what bothers me [i don't think]
what hurts is others' and my own perceptions of this truth
a comment here, there...and then another
i freeze
it seems i feel i've failed because i've not lived up to what others have wanted me to become
this feeling of failure i then project onto my friends when they don't live up to what i expect

a third resolution: after reading kitty's
post, i must very seriously think about who i want to be [deeply] associated with
i feel more often than not that i am taken advantage of - for money, good nature, help, work, creativity
i am left flat and empty

a fourth resolution: travel this year
i have a year off of school [with pay!! woooooohoooooooo] starting in june
our first adventure begins saturday
we are going on a cruise...to the caribbean
my second adventure is to retry a holiday on my own [the first attempt last year was dreadful, lol]
march break in california [i do love it there]
i know this second attempt will be much better than the last [it couldn't be any worse ;)]
this part of the resolutions is easy...i do hope, though, that it brings me insight into other cultures and perceptions
if i smile, will the majority smile back?

a fifth resolution: meditate more
feel more compassion towards myself & others
learn to fit in
find a sangha
be kind & considerate
learn more about this elusive enlightenment that i seek
follow my bliss

We meet today
To thank Thee for the era done,
And Thee for the opening one.
~John Greenleaf Whittier

Happy New Year!
May 2006 be full of wonder, joy and good health!

May your troubles in the new year be
as short-lived as your resolutions. :-)

Very thoughtful "revolutions", Marlaine. :) This inspires me to take some quiet time over the next few days to do the same.

"My first resolution: do not buy any books until i've read the old ones [it's not working so well, yet...lol]":

*yikes* I'd be in deep trouble with that one myself, so I'd better leave it off my list (I think it would be a bit too revolutionary for me, especially now that I live near Powell's Books.)

A sabbatical!! I hope you will be blogging about your travel adventures.

I especially appreciate your posting the quote from John Greenleaf Whittier, "We meet today To thank Thee for the era done, and Thee for the one opening". I feel that in my heart.

Namaste to what was, what is, and what is to be. Namaste to everyone and everything, everywhere.
