ego...addictions
i'm still listening to pema's cds, 'from fear to fearlessness'
[i finally switched to cd #2...i listened to the first for about 50x :)]
she talks about how we hold so tightly onto our addictions even though we know they do not make us stronger...that they eventually make us weaker
the pull is so strong to do these [often crippling] things to ourselves - to eat when frustrated, to smoke when anxious, or drink when angry - that it is very hard to change our behaviours from the instant gratification/comfort we receive from them
she reminds us that we all have addictions
and that we all fall back into comforting/addicting habits when we're not mindful
one thing to remember also, is to not lay blame/shame on ourselves when we falter - i.e. double our suffering
----
this rings so true to me
i know that my weight causes me difficulty...and does not make me a stronger person
i know that i heap blame upon myself when i eat what i'm not 'supposed to'
it is this addiction that i struggle with the most
----
a friend copied the dr. weil article from time canada for me
it talks about aging, diet....
i'm just about to read that part
then it's off to bed...
----
the furnace is not working
either we get it fixed...or buy a new high efficiency one
mike's not working...but gas prices are soaring
the furnace we have is barely mid-efficiency...the environment needs all the help it can get
$4K is a lot of money for right now...i don't like icicles hanging from my nose in the morning ;)
----
today, i am thankful for:

good post :)
hmmm...mindfulness seems to be the common denominator in a lot of things I've read lately.
I think it's true though. If we are really mindful of what we're doing then we are much less likely to fall into old habbits and patterns because we really notice what we are doing and are therefore much less likely to fall into our usual traps.
hi a.d. :)
i find it so easy to see where i...falter when i write stuff in my journal
it really stares me in the face
it's the real life split decisions i have difficulty with - by...not being mindful
